Maartens’ handwritten cookery book
Throughout the period of the commemorative event, three restaurants in Doorn served a special Maartens menu, based on the recipes in the cookery book Maartens wrote for his daughter’s 20th birthday: restaurant ’Fleuri’ at the Zonheuvel country estate and the restaurants ‘De Notabelen’ and ‘De Oranjerie’ in Doorn.
Versatile and creative
The cookery book speaks volumes about Maarten Maartens. It is remarkable that a man with a large household staff enjoyed preparing gastronomic dishes for his family and friends in his own kitchen. In doing so, he was way ahead of his time, and it demonstrates his versatility, creative talent and wide interests.
